Our Family has experienced a devastating loss of Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather, Harold Thomas Biggs, on October 11, 2016. We had been married almost 53 years on our anniversary November 8, 2016. We had a very fulfilling life together and I will miss him very much. I plan to continue on with our Shelties and our Small Boarding and Grooming Business. Below is Our Story. I hope that the remaining years will be just as full as the last 53.
Judy Beth Biggs
We obtained our first Sheltie, Bellevue Skipper, on October 22, 1978. This began as a family project with our two sons, Thomas and Dale. One Sheltie led to another, and that led to obedience, and that led to the breed ring, and here we are 30 years later with just the two of us and our little band of Shelties. Our grownup sons still come home on occasion to help us show but it is our project now. Below is how we looked in the early days.
During the 30 years that we have been in Shelties, Harold has been a Professional Handler and obtained championships on several clients' dogs. Some health problems surfaced and he had to give up handling for others and put all the effort into our dogs.
We are members in good standing with The American Kennel Club and The American Shetland Sheepdog Association (ASSA). We are also Charter Members and very active in our local Sheltie Club, Northwest Louisiana Shetland Sheepdog Club, Inc. (NWLSSC). Our club was the Host for the 2002 ASSA National Specialty which was held in Shreveport, LA. This honor was bestowed upon us when we had only been licensed by the AKC for two years and had only held two Specialties of our own. Harold is the President and Judy Beth is the Treasurer.
In March, 1993, we obtained our first Schipperke, Heart-Throb's Rage-N-Cajun. Harold had always admired the little guys and said if he ever found one that fit his ideal, he would get it. Cajun was quite a character, who finished his championship quickly with limited showing, and ended up pretty high in the breed standings that year. He has produced three champion get to date, and other pointed offspring. We also showed to their titles CH Heart-Throb's On Top, Ch Bellevue's Song Of Kachet and CH Bellevue's Cajun Blast. We decided in 2001 that we were not going to breed and show Schipperkes any more and placed our show stock with Claudia Fitzgerald of Lusa Chula. We felt that we were spreading ourselves too thin and not doing justice to our Shelties.
Since scaling back to only our shelties, we have achieved some success in the show ring by finishing BISS CH Bellevue's Velvet Britches, BISS CH Bellevue's Bayou Bucaneer, CH Bellevue's Shipp in the Nite, CH Bellevue's Sugarcreek Bayou, CH Sandcastle Saga of Bellevue, CH Bellevue's Mark My Word, CH Bellevue's Moonlite Bayou, CH Bellevue's Cajun Classic, CH Chisterling the Bootlegger, CH Bellevue's Chain Reaction and CH Bellevues Fair Play. We are also growing out some promising young hopefuls.
In 2005/2006, we built a new home. After 40 years at one location, we moved a lifetime of stuff to Benton, LA, in May, 2006. We are both retired but seem to be busier than ever. We hope to continue to show our dogs and raise a few sweet lovable puppies for a long time to come.
